What Type of Mask is Best for You?
Before We Go On
-
When you think of skincare as a child, you think masks. You’ve seen it in Pretty Woman and other iconic films that make you think the ultimate skincare is a facial mask. Even as we get older getting a facial or even doing a mask at home feels like a treat. My first mask was a clay mask in a squeeze package for teenage acne-prone skin. Now, with my skin calming down and more options on the market for face masks, t can be overwhelming to choose which one to use. Today we’ll break down what’s what and when to use it. Let’s get to it.
Clay/Mud
Use: Once a week
What is it: A thick consistency - clay or mud masks draw out debris from your pores.
For:
- Deep cleanse.
- Oil Control
- Acne-prone/ Blackhead/Whitehead prone skin.
Clay or mud controls excess sebum production and cleanses deep into the pores. The end results in matte, healthy skin. It’s not recommended for dry skin as it can be too strong of detox for flaky skin.
Sheet Mask
Use: Anywhere from Twice a day to Once a week (Depends on the active ingredient in the sheet mask essence)
What is it: A sheet-shaped for the face and soaked in essence. Materials of the sheet mask itself along with the essence varies - there are so many varieties to choose from. You can expect to find at least one sheet mask for every skin concern you have.
For: Depends on the sheet mask but it’s definitely for people who like hassle-free masking. It’s easy to travel with, easy to use, and not messy.
Sheet masks were popularized in Korea first and have since spread all over the world. They’re amazing for the skin and can target just about any skin concerns anyone can have. It is the most flexible type of mask, you can find all sorts of variations on the market. So just because your not a fan of one sheet mask you’re still able to look for a completely different type of sheet mask! Expect your skin to feel nourished after using a sheet mask!
Peel Mask
Use: Stronger charcoal ones should be 2 - 3 times a month. A lighter fruit peel can be used 1 - 2 a week.
What is it:
- Best for dry, flaky skin
- Results in smooth skin.
- Expect a slightly brighter complexion.
Removes the outermost layer of your skin to get rid of dead skin, and dullness.
For: Best for skin that feels dull - if the skin is sensitive this mask may be irritating to the skin.
An interesting face mask that when dried requires you to peel off the mask as well as any dead skin cells and surface-level debris.
Summary:
There you go! Three main types of masks for you and from there you can determine what you need a mask for and how you like face masks to feel - it’ll help you choose the right mask for you. Good luck!
