3 Active Ingredients You'll Want to Include in Your Skincare
Before We Go On
-
Let's talk more about what active ingredients are. Active ingredients are ingredients that create physical changes to your skin - these often are the ingredients that target acne, pigmentation, and signs of aging. An ingredient is determined as active from scientific tests to prove that it can change the skin. Some legalities differ from country to country and therefore what is considered as an active ingredient change based on the country as well.
It's important to know that inactive ingredients matter just as much because when we look at skincare products we do want to consider the formula.
Now that we have our basic knowledge - we can talk about the top 3 active ingredients that you'll want to incorporate into your skincare routine.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid is one of the most well-known ingredients in moisturizers and other hydrating skincare products. It hydrates the skin by binding to water which in turn plumps the skin leaving a glowy finish. You can almost immediately notice the skin looking more fresh, and bouncy. The deep hydration softens fine lines and therefore makes it a great ingredient for mature skin.
The hydrating properties of Hyaluronic Acid protect the skin from harsh environments, pollution, heaters/air condition that all create breaks in the skin which allow water to escape the skin. It has the ability to penetrate the skin easily and it doesn't irritate the skin. It's a gentle active ingredient that is suitable for all skin types because hydration is fundamental for good skin.
Niacinamide
Ceramides
Ceramides improve and create a healthy skin barrier. It protects the skin from toxins, pollution, and debris. The barrier also retains moisture in the skin - keeping the skin deeply hydrated. We often use Ceramide NP which is formulated to specifically improve the skin barrier and is known to be effective.
It's a lipid or fat that naturally occurs in our skin with anti-aging properties that improve our overall skin health. This ingredient is especially useful for people who live in the city or people with more mature skin. Interestingly enough, the more ceramide that you apply on your face - the more it teaches your skin to produce more ceramides. Ultimately changing the skin to appear younger and healthier.
