What is double cleansing?
Before We Go On
Double cleansing is perfect for a night time cleansing routine. It involves two cleansers - typically an oil-based and water-based cleanser to remove all toxins, SPF, dirt, and excess sebum. The first draws out oil-based impurities and the second cleanse water-based impurities.
To decide whether or not to add double cleansing to your routine depends on your skin. If you find that your skin has been breaking out or doesn't feel as bright/refreshed after the one cleanses then it would be good to incorporate a second cleanse. Oil cleansing can be especially beneficial for oily skin types - it may sound redundant but in fact, it can be a great way to remove excess oil from the skin without stripping away too much of your natural oils. But, if the idea of oil type cleansers seems too scary to use - we created the Dr.Althea Ultra Gentle Cleansing Water which uses a micella technology that removes difficult debris and makeup. After we recommend using the Amino Acid Gentle Bubble Cleanser for a deeper clean - as the UFD-2000 nanobubbles are able to penetrate deep into the pores for a more thorough cleanse. But if you are using heavy makeup and mineral-based SPF then it is recommended to opt for an oil-based cleanser to thoroughly remove impurities.
Do you always have to double cleanse?
The answer is it depends on your skin - if your skin. Skincare routines should always be adjusted to the way your skin is feeling and the environment around you. It's a personal intuitive process but to simplify it doesn't hurt to double cleanse with gentle products every night and do a single cleanse or a water rinse in the morning (depends on your skin).
