Cleansing techniques: For the most effective cleanse
Before We Go On
Cleansing is the first step to clear skin. When cleansing properly and with the right products your skin will look brighter, feel softer, cleaner, and calmer immediately. So how can you achieve that kind of result through cleansing? Besides finding the proper products for you the first step is to understand if you're cleansing properly.
1. Lukewarm water
Yes, it is that simple, you must use lukewarm water for cleansing. Hot and cold water can irritate your skin and damage your water barrier. While lukewarm water can gently help your work product into your pores and out of. Taking with it excess sebum, dirt, and other debris for clearer skin.
Think of cleansing as a face massage, in fact, it really is one. Warm-up your hands with lukewarm water then work the product between your hands before applying it to your skin. Massage in gentle circular motions focusing on areas of the face that have blemishes and experience the most contact with oils and dirt (i.e T zone, forehead if you have bangs, and cheeks). Spend at least 30 seconds to really work the product into your skin before splashing lukewarm water onto your face. Continue working in lukewarm water into your skin until all the product is completely washed off.
3. Be Gentle
Handle your skin with care. Irritating it will only make it worse and remember taking care of your skin is not just for vanity purposes. The skin is the largest organ in your body and works hard to take care of you as well. So do it a favor and be gentle to your skin.
4. Dab with a towel
To dry your skin dab with a towel. Make sure you keep that towel clean by washing it once a week or every other week. You don't want to be drying your skin with a dirty towel which takes you back to square one of the cleansing process.
5. Double cleanse
It is up to you if you want to do this twice a day or once but you should absolutely double cleanse at night - especially if you have acne-prone skin. Double cleansing will ensure that your skin is clean and nourished. Prepping it for the night care routine you have.
If you do all this and aren't seeing any improvements to your skin, something in your skincare routine may be causing your skin to react. It might be time to switch a product. If you're unsure and need advice just leave a comment below!
